Noakhali records 208 mm rainfall in 24 hours

The District Meteorological Office has recorded 208 mm rainfall in Noakhali in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the Water Development Board says that due to excessive rain, the water level in the district has increased by 17 cm in a day. However, the water level is still 1 cm below the danger level. Due to continuous rain, there has been more waterlogging in Sadar, Companiganj, Kabirhat and Subarnachar of Noakhali. A lot of flooding has occurred. Water has entered the homes of many people. Teaching and examinations have been declared closed in secondary schools in these four upazilas. More waterlogging has occurred in the district town of Maijdi. Various roads and neighborhoods have become waterlogged here. Water has risen to the knees in most areas including Stadium Para, Jail Road area, Fakirpur, Harinarayanpur, Laxminarayanpur, Housing in Noakhali Municipality. In addition, water has entered the ground floor and mud houses in these areas. As a result, residents have been suffering due to waterlogging. Most of the roads in the city have become death traps due to potholes during the current monsoon. Since the rains started earlier this year, the city has been waterlogged 4 to 5 times since mid-June. Although it has not lasted more than 2 to 3 days. However, if it rains continuously like this, permanent waterlogging may occur. Meanwhile, Rafiqul Islam, an observer at the District Meteorological Office, said that it may rain like this for the next 4 to 5 days.
