UN Secretary-General coming to Dhaka
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is arriving in Dhaka on Thursday for a four-day visit. An Emirates flight (EK-586) carrying him will land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5 pm.
Upon arrival in Dhaka, Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain will receive him before going to the Intercontinental Hotel.
During the visit, Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain and the High-Level Representative of the Principal Advisor on Rohingya Issues and Priorities Dr. Khalilur Rahman will meet Guterres at the Intercontinental Hotel at 9 am tomorrow, Friday. The UN Secretary-General will meet the Principal Advisor Dr. Yunus at the Principal Advisor’s office at 10 am today.
After the meeting, Guterres will travel to Cox’s Bazar on a commercial flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to visit the Rohingya camps. He will be welcomed by the Disaster Management and Relief Advisor Farooq E Azam there.
On this day, Principal Adviser Professor Yunus and Antonio Guterres will join nearly 100,000 Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar for an iftar. During the event, the two leaders will interact with Rohingya imams and community leaders.
Before the iftar, the Secretary-General will visit several facilities in the camp, including a watch tower, learning center, multipurpose service center and a jute production facility. He will also interact with Rohingya youth and children.
In the evening, Guterres will return to the Intercontinental Hotel in Dhaka. On Saturday, the UN Secretary-General will visit the UN building in Dhaka, where he will hoist the UN flag, view a photo exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-UN relations, and attend a meeting with UN staff.
In the afternoon, he will attend a roundtable discussion on Bangladesh’s reform process at the Intercontinental Hotel. He is expected to participate in a dialogue with youth and meet members of civil society.
Later, Guterres will address a joint media briefing with Foreign Affairs Adviser Hossain at the hotel. On the same day, Principal Adviser Dr. Yunus will host an iftar and dinner in honor of the UN Secretary-General.
The UN Secretary-General will leave Dhaka on an Emirates flight at 9:55 am on Sunday.
