    Arrest warrant issued against 9 people including Hasina and Imran H Sarkar

    The court has issued arrest warrants against nine people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and then-Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar, in connection with the massacre at a Hefazat rally in the capital’s Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar on May 5, 2013.

    The International Crimes Tribunal issued the order on Wednesday.

    Apart from Sheikh Hasina and Imran H Sarkar, the accused in the warrants include former Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, former IGP Hasan Mahmud Khandaker and Benazir Ahmed.

    In addition, former State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, former IGP Shahidul Haque, former army officer Ziaul Ahsan, and former police officer Molla Nazrul Islam have been ordered to be arrested as they are in jail in other cases.

    In addition, an order has been issued to submit the investigation report on May 12.

    Earlier, on November 27, Hefazat-e-Islam filed a complaint with the tribunal’s prosecution, accusing Sheikh Hasina and 50 others in the Shapla Chattar incident.

    The charges include former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Minister Rashed Khan Menon, former Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, former Minister Hasan Mahmud, former MP Haji Selim, former Prime Minister’s Advisor Salman F Rahman, former Narayanganj MP Shamim Osman, former Prime Minister’s Advisor Tariq Ahmed Siddiqui, former IGP AKM Shahidul Haque, former IGP Benazir Ahmed, former RAB Additional Director General Ziaul Ahmed, DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) Harun Or Rashid, former DMP Deputy Commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarkar, President of the 1970s Murderous Broker Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir, Nirmul Committee member Professor Muntasir Mamun, former Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal Turin Afroz, Convener of the Ganajagaran Mancha Imran H Sarkar, Former CEO of Ekattor TV Mozammel Haque Babu, former managing director and CEO of Somoy TV Ahmed Jobayer, editor of ABnews24.com Subhas Singha Roy, former Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Naimul Islam Khan, former Army Chief Aziz Ahmed and NSI’s Md. Manzur Ahmed have been made accused.

    The plaintiff alleges in the case that on May 5, 2013, Hefazat-e-Islam took up residence in Shapla Chattar in Motijheel with a 13-point demand. The accused, in collusion with each other, shut down the power line at around 11 pm. After that, the law enforcement forces conducted a raid in Shapla Chattar and committed genocide against madrasa students and pedestrians. Later, the bodies were taken away in a city corporation vehicle and disappeared. When the families of the deceased went to file a case at the police station, it was not taken.
