The child has not yet regained consciousness, the statement contains a heartbreaking description
The 8-year-old girl who was raped in Magura did not regain consciousness even after four days. The child was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) from Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital on Saturday as her condition was ‘critical’. She is breathing with the help of an artificial life support machine.
Meanwhile, the mother of the victim child filed a case with Magura Sadar Police Station on Saturday (March 8), three days after the rape incident. She alleged that her father (father-in-law) raped the child with the help of her daughter’s husband. The girl’s mother-in-law and brother-in-law knew about the matter. They also tried to kill the child to cover up the incident.
That morning, the mother sent a complaint to Magura Sadar Police Station through the child’s elder sister and father. Accordingly, a case was registered around 3 pm.
The case is accused of rape and injuring the child through rape under Section 9 (4) of the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act. In this, the child’s sister’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law have been made accused. They were already in police custody.
The case statement states that the child’s elder sister got married to a young man from Magura municipality four months ago. The sister’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law lived in that house. Since the marriage, her father-in-law had been making immoral proposals to the elder daughter. Other family members knew about the matter. There was also a fight over this. In such a situation, the eight-year-old child went to visit her sister’s in-laws’ house on March 1.
Describing the incident in the statement, the plaintiff mentioned that on Wednesday (March 5) at around 10 pm, the child slept in the same room with her elder sister and her husband after eating. At around 2:30 am, the elder sister woke up and saw that the younger sister was not by her side, lying on the floor.
Then the child told her elder sister that her genitals were burning. But the elder sister thought that the child was babbling in her sleep. Then at around 6 am, the child again told her sister about the burning sensation in her genitals. When asked the reason, she told her sister that when her brother-in-law (sister’s husband) opened the door at night, her father (father-in-law) grabbed her by the mouth and took her to his room and raped her. When she tried to scream, he strangled her. Later, he left her on the floor of her sister’s room again.
The statement also states that after learning about the incident, when the child’s elder sister went to inform her mother about the matter on her cell phone, her husband took the cell phone away and beat her. If she told anyone about this, he threatened to kill the child and locked the two sisters in two separate rooms. In the morning, a female neighbor came to the house and opened the door to her sister’s brother-in-law. Then, they tried to cure the child by pouring water on her head.
When the child became even sicker around 10:30 am, the sister’s mother-in-law, with the help of other neighbors, took her to the 250-bed Magura Hospital. There, she told the doctors that the girl had been strangled. However, when the doctors and others realized the matter, the mother-in-law fled the hospital. Later, the plaintiff went to the hospital.
