Commission summons Hasina to Dhaka
The National Independent Commission of Inquiry has summoned 15 people, including Sheikh Hasina, to testify about the killings at the then BDR headquarters in Peelkhana, Dhaka, on February 25 and 26, 2009. In a press release sent by the commission on Saturday, it has urged them to appear before the commission’s office or give their testimony online within the next 7 days.
Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Prime Minister’s Security Advisor Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddique, former Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Fazle Noor Taposh, former Gopalganj-2 MP Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, former Dhaka-13 MP Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former Jamalpur-3 MP Mirza Azam, former Dhaka-8 MP AFM Bahauddin Nasim, then 44 Rifle Battalion commander Brigadier General (retd) Muhammad Shamsul Alam, former DGFI Director General (DG) Lieutenant General (retd) Molla Fazle Akbar, former Army Chief General (retd) Moin U Ahmed, former Army Chief General (retd) Aziz Ahmed, former RAB Director General (DG) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, former police officer Abdul Kahar Akand, former Inspector General of Police (IG) Nur Mohammad and former Additional IGP Monirul Islam.
The notification mentioned that 15 people involved have been called to give testimony in the interest of a fair investigation into the incident.
It was also said that the testimony-taking process is planned to be completed by March 31. For this, the witnesses will have to inform the commission in writing of their convenient schedule within 7 days of the publication of the notification. Witnesses can send the schedule to the commission by phone, e-mail or letter.
The notification warned that if any witness fails to cooperate, the National Independent Investigation Commission will take effective action according to the law.
