History could turn around with Trump formula

French President Emmanuel Macron said Russian aggression has “no boundaries” and is a direct threat to Europe. Macron made the remarks on Wednesday ahead of an emergency defense summit of the 27 leaders of the European Union (EU) in Brussels on Thursday.

His remarks came at a time when the future of relations between European countries and the United States and the European military alliance NATO are uncertain over the Ukraine issue. “Who believes that today’s Russia will stop in Ukraine?” he asked.

EU leaders are meeting for the first time since a heated meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on February 28. It is believed that they will take decisive decisions on the fate of Europe without the United States in the context of uncertain relations with the United States. Zelensky is also attending the conference. News: Al Jazeera, CNN, DrazReport, Reuters.

In that meeting at the White House, Trump asked Zelensky to come to a peace agreement with Russia. But Zelensky ignored it, and a brawl broke out, in which US Vice President JD Vance also got involved. Then the meeting collapsed. After that incident, the US announced that it would stop providing all military aid to Ukraine. This includes intelligence cooperation.

Even in such a situation, Western Europe is reluctant to let go of Zelensky. From the US, he went straight to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London. Starmer announced that he would give him a huge amount of money to continue the war. In addition, France and Germany have announced that they will continue to provide military and other assistance to Ukraine. Starmer announced that Britain will lend Ukraine $ 2.8 billion to fight against Russia. It is clear from these initiatives that the scope of the war will increase in the coming days.

After the Trump-Zelensky meeting collapsed, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kalas wrote on social media, “Today it is proven that new leaders are needed to create a ‘free world.’ This challenge must be taken up by us, the Europeans.”

In addition to Britain, France, and Germany, most Western European countries, including Spain, Denmark, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, and Norway, have been blindly supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia for the past three years. After taking office for a second term, US President Trump took an initiative to stop this war, which failed last week due to Zelensky’s stubbornness.

A rift has also appeared in NATO over the Ukraine issue. That rift is widening over time. President Trump has already indicated that he will leave NATO. He said that most European NATO countries do not spend at all on defense. As a result, the United States has to bear the cost of the security of the entire Europe alone.

If the US leaves NATO, the fear cannot be completely ruled out, then this former Soviet and current anti-Russian military alliance will be greatly weakened. Not only the US, but Turkey may also leave NATO. There are also fears about countries like Hungary.

In such a situation, the EU is trying to move forward independently without the US by supporting Ukraine. That is why yesterday’s emergency summit in Brussels is for this. Is the center of global power going to be divided again as a result? Is NATO about to lose its largest ally, the US?

The US has already said that Ukraine’s inclusion in NATO is unrealistic. The US has also threatened to withdraw its troops from Europe. In this context, the wisdom of the EU leaders who are supporting Ukraine to continue the war instead of peace and the decision to provide Zelensky with endless money is questionable. French President Macron also said that he will meet with the military chiefs of European countries next week. Sending troops to Ukraine will be the topic of discussion at the meeting. He even wants to deploy French nuclear weapons in various European countries.

Meanwhile, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for the Russian presidential office, told reporters that Macron’s statement was “extremely confrontational” and that it was clear that France did not want peace. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also made the same comment, saying that Macron’s statement was a threat against Russia.
