59 Palestinians die in Israeli prisons
At least 59 Palestinians have died in Israeli prisons, most of them from the besieged Gaza Strip, Anadolu news agency reported on Tuesday.
A large number of these Palestinians have lost their lives in Israeli prisons since the start of the invasion of Gaza in October 2023. Most of them are from the besieged Gaza Strip.
The report said that at least 59 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli prisons since the start of the invasion of Gaza in October 2023. The Palestinian Prison Society, a prisoners’ rights group, said this in a statement.
The statement said that 38 prisoners from the Gaza Strip were among the dead. The organization also accused Israeli authorities of concealing information about the deaths of Gaza prisoners.
Earlier on Monday, the Commission on Prisoners Affairs said that Gaza detainee Musab Hani Haniyah had died in Israeli custody. The 35-year-old Haniyah was arrested by Israeli forces in the southern city of Khan Yunis on March 3, 2024. According to his family, Haniyah was healthy before his arrest.
According to Palestinian figures, at least 296 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli custody since the 1967 occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. At least 10,000 Palestinians are being held in Israeli jails. This figure does not include those arrested in the Gaza Strip, who are estimated to number in the thousands.
A ceasefire in Gaza has been in effect since January 19. The three-phase ceasefire agreement includes prisoner exchanges and a permanent peace, a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Israel has continued its brutal assault on the long-besieged territory.
According to the latest figures from the Gaza Health Ministry, the number of Palestinians killed in Israel’s genocidal war in the Gaza Strip since October 2023 has reached 48,350. In addition, millions more have been injured.
According to the UN, about 85 percent of the Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced due to Israel’s brutal attack. In addition, 60 percent of the infrastructure in the besieged territory has been damaged or destroyed. Israel has already been accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice.
