The two teams are set to play in the Group ‘A’ match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium today, Monday. The match will start at 3 pm Bangladesh time. Kiwi captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and sent Bangladesh into bat.
The pair of Rabindra and Latham laid the foundation for New Zealand’s victory. They put on a 129-run partnership for the fourth wicket off 136 balls. Rabindra was dismissed for 112 off 105 balls, while Latham scored 55 runs.
On the other hand, Glenn Phillips remained unbeaten on 21 runs and Bracewell on 11 runs to give New Zealand the victory.
Whereas, the Tigers scored 236 runs for the loss of 9 wickets after the stipulated 50 overs, relying on the batting of Nazmul Hossain Shantar and Zaker Ali.
Bangladesh started the day well by batting. Tanjid Hasan Tamim and Nazmul Hossain Shanto made 45 runs in 8.2 overs in the opening partnership. However, Tanjid took a catch to Kane Williamson, who was on a shot for 24 runs off Michael Bracewell in the team’s ninth over. After that, Bangladesh saw their fifty.
Mehedi Hasan Miraj started positively, batting at number three. He opened the scorebook by hitting a six. However, he gave the ball to Mitchell Santner off Will O’Rourke for 13 runs. Then, despite batting slowly, Towhid Hridoy (7), who had scored a century against India, returned before reaching double figures. After that, the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim could not do justice to his name. He became Bracewell’s third victim and left the field for just 2 runs.
Mahmudullah Riyad, who got a chance in the team instead of Soumya Sarkar, could not help. He was caught by Bracewell for 4 runs. However, captain Shanto then tried to pair with Zaker Ali. They scored 45 runs off 67 balls. However, Shanto sacrificed himself by throwing himself into the sky off Will O’Rourke’s ball. This batter scored 77 runs off 110 balls with 9 fours.
Rishad, who came out at eight, played an effective innings of 26 runs off 25 balls. He hit 2 fours and a six. However, Zaker played another great innings before being run out. This batter, who saved the team from the rubble in the previous match, scored 45 runs off 55 balls with 3 fours and a six.
Bracewell took the highest 4 wickets among the Kiwi bowlers. O’Rourke took 2 wickets.
If the Kiwis win this match, they will reach the semi-finals of the tournament. At the same time, the semi-finals will be assured for India. In this match of various equations, New Zealand has made two changes to the team. Kyle Jamieson has come in place of Nathan Smith. On the other hand, spin all-rounder Rachin Rabindra is playing due to Daryl Mitchell’s illness.
Bangladesh also made two changes to their playing XI. Mahmudullah Riyad, who was ill in the previous match, has been brought into the team in place of Soumya Sarkar. And pacer Nahid Rana has been brought back in place of pacer Tanjim Hasan Shakib.
