    Trump eyes Ukrainian minerals

US President Donald Trump said he hopes Volodymyr Zelensky will soon reach an agreement with the United States on Ukraine’s mineral resources. Trump said this in the Oval Office last Friday. In response, Zelensky said in a video message, “Ukraine and the US delegation are working on a draft agreement… I hope for a fair outcome.” However, observers believe that Trump may put pressure on Ukraine in various ways if Ukraine does not receive its minerals. BBC News.

Trump is making various moves to stop the war in Ukraine. Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Although Zelensky is not supposed to be there. Amid such tensions, Trump has proposed a mineral agreement to Ukraine.

In the proposal, Trump has now asked Ukraine to take ownership of $500 billion in mineral resources in exchange for the military assistance that Washington provided to Kiev during the war. But Zelensky said the aid the US has provided so far is far less than the amount Trump is seeking back. Trump’s offer did not even include security guarantees. After Zelensky rejected the offer, Trump called him a “dictator” and said Zelensky must step down quickly to ensure peace with Russia or he could lose his country.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Ukraine could lose access to Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet if it does not grant the US access to its mineral resources.
