The United States broke a 40-year record
The United States holds an incredible record. This new cricketing nation has broken a 40-year-old record set by India. They won a full-length ODI by just 122 runs. This is a new record for winning by such a small margin.
The United States defeated Oman by 57 runs in Al Amara in the ICC Cricket World Cup League-II match. Earlier in 1985, India defeated Pakistan by 38 runs in the Four Nations Tournament in Sharjah. In that match, India batted first and scored 125 runs. The United States broke that record and set a new record.
But not only this, several other records have been broken. All 9 bowlers used in the USA-Oman match were spinners. This is the first time in 4671 ODIs that such an incident has been seen. No pacer has bowled a single ball in the match. On the way to bowling out Oman for 65, USA’s Nostosh Kenzige took 5 wickets for 11 runs.
The spinners from both teams took a total of 19 wickets in the match. This is a joint record for the highest wicket-taking by spinners in an ODI, which also includes Bangladesh. In 2011, spinners from both teams also took 19 wickets in the Pakistan-Bangladesh ODI in Chittagong.
Meanwhile, the USA-Oman match had to come second in one place. Both teams were all out and managed to score 187 runs in 61 overs. The record for the lowest runs in an ODI where both teams were all out was set in the Bangladesh-India match in 2014. Both teams scored 163 runs in 41 overs.
