Chief advisor condemns brawl at book fair
The Chief Advisor to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has condemned the brawl that took place in front of the stall of a publishing house named ‘Sabyasachi’ at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair. Such chaotic behavior shows contempt for both the rights of citizens and the laws of the country in Bangladesh.
He made this condemnation in a statement issued on Monday night.
In the statement, the Chief Advisor said, the Ekushey Book Fair is the fair of life for writers and readers of this country. It is a meeting place for writers, essayists, thinkers, teachers and students of this country, including people of all classes, professions and ages. Such an unpleasant incident at the book fair undermines the open cultural practice of Bangladesh and shows contempt for the dignity of the martyrs of the great language movement of 1952.
He said, the interim government has ordered the police and Bangla Academy authorities to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to justice. The police have been instructed to take all necessary measures to strengthen security at the fair and ensure that no untoward incident takes place at this significant venue. The interim government has directed the concerned security agencies to take strict measures to prevent any kind of chaos in the country.
