3 injured in gas cylinder explosion in Madaripur
Three members of the same family were burnt in a gas cylinder explosion in Madaripur. The accident occurred in the Bagerpar area of the city on Sunday night. The family lives in the house of Saifur Rahman Chunnu Fakir in the same area.
The injured are Jewel Hawlader (35), his wife Tania Begum (30) and their daughter Sohagi Akhter (9).
According to the fire service, family and local sources, Tania Begum went to light a gas stove for mosquito coils at night. At that time, the gas cylinder exploded. On receiving the information, members of the Madaripur Fire Service went to the spot. They admitted the injured to the Madaripur 250-bed District Hospital. Later that night, Tania was sent to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka in a serious condition.
Madaripur Fire Service Inspector Sheikh Ahaduzzaman said that initially it is believed that the accident occurred due to a gas pipe burst (leak). The explosion was large-scale because the doors and windows of the house were closed.
