    JU cancels pet quota

    In view of the demands of the protesting students, the Jahangirnagar University (JU) administration has decided to cancel the pet quota. Yesterday, Tuesday at 12:15 am, the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan made this announcement after an emergency meeting.

    Earlier, the campus became heated over the pet quota issue. In the morning, officers and employees protested by taking a stand in front of the university’s administrative building demanding the restoration of the quota as before. Then, the protesting students took out a procession from Battala, circled various halls and took a stand in front of the administrative building demanding the complete abolition of the pet quota.

    On the other hand, the Officers and Employees Unity Council announced a continuous strike from Wednesday demanding the restoration of the pet quota.

    In the emerging situation, the university administration held an emergency meeting chaired by the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan in the afternoon. After a long discussion, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan announced the cancellation of the pet quota.

    The university’s vice-chancellor said, “Considering the demands of the students, we sat in urgent discussions with all the stakeholders of the university. All the stakeholders gave the responsibility of considering the pet quota issue to the Central Admission Test Committee. The pet quota was canceled in the emergency meeting of the Central Admission Test Committee.”
