Shakib is not in the central contract
Shakib Al Hasan is set to be dropped from the BCB’s 2025 central contract. The BCB has not officially announced the names of the cricketers under this year’s central contract yet. However, it is certain that Shakib will not be on this list!
At the end of the board meeting on February 12 last year, the BCB announced the names of 21 cricketers under central contract for 2024. Their term was from January 1 to December 31. Shakib Al Hasan was under contract for three versions of the service (Test, ODI and T20). However, after the political change in the country on August 5 last year, there have been changes in the BCB as well. Shakib, who is involved in Awami League politics, is out of the national team. Due to security risks, he could not come home and play his farewell Mirpur Test against South Africa. This all-rounder was not even included in the team for the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan and Dubai this month. Since Shakib’s chances of playing in the national team jersey are slim, he is naturally being dropped from the central contract.
Meanwhile, Nahid Rana is set to get a place in the central contract for the first time. The pacer, who has played 6 Tests and 3 ODIs for the national team, is likely to be signed only for red-ball cricket. Apart from this, Liton Das, Nazmul Hossain and Shariful, who were on contract for three editions last year, may lose their place from this list this time.
