DB Harun syndicate chief Abu Sadeq arrested
Police have arrested SS Group Managing Director Abu Sadeq in a case of kidnapping a businessman and trying to extort Tk 6 crore by taking him to the DB office. He is known as the ‘head of the syndicate’ of former Additional Commissioner of the Intelligence Department of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Harun Or Rashid.
He was arrested from his home in Mohammadpur in the capital on Sunday night.
The investigation officer of the case and SI of Ramna Police Station Abdul Quader confirmed this information to the media.
Earlier, on January 21, the victim businessman named Zulfiqar Ali filed a case with Ramna Police Station on January 23 on the instructions of the court.
The accused in the case are Abu Sadeq, former Additional Commissioner of the Intelligence Department of the DMP Harun Or Rashid, former DC DB Golam Sabur, a then Additional DIG, General Secretary of Dhaka District Awami League Moniruzzaman Tarun and Abu Sadeq’s manager Md. Shamim.
The case statement states that the accused, in collusion with each other, kidnapped businessman Zulfiqar on February 13, 2023, took him to the DB office and tortured him there and demanded Tk 6 crore. A week was also given to pay the money. Later, he was tortured twice more at the DB office and at the Dreams Beauty Parlor and Fitness Club located on Road No. 1 in Dhanmondi. The beauty parlor was mainly a hangout for members of Abu Sadek’s syndicate. Sitting there, the other accused, including Dhaka District Awami League General Secretary Moniruzzaman Tarun, used to plan various kidnappings and extortions.
