What Trump said warning to BRICS
The new US President Donald Trump has once again threatened to impose tariffs on the BRICS countries. This time he has threatened to impose 100 percent tariffs on the countries in the alliance. The Trump administration has already imposed 25 percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico.
According to the British news agency Reuters, Trump had previously threatened that if the BRICS alliance, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, introduces an alternative currency to compete with the US dollar, he would impose 100 percent tariffs on those countries. Recently, he reiterated that position again.
He said in a post on his ‘Truth Social’ platform, ‘When the BRICS countries plan to move away from the dollar, we will just sit back and watch – that era is over.’
He also said, ‘We want a promise from these hostile countries that they will not create a new BRICS currency and will not support any other currency as a replacement for the US dollar. Otherwise, they will face 100% tariffs.’
Meanwhile, Trump has also threatened China separately. He has announced an additional 10% tariff on China, a member of the BRICS alliance. He is taking this decision because of the trade imbalance with the United States and China’s alleged role in the supply of fentanyl.
