Devotees throng Turag shores to participate in final prayers of the Ijtema.
The first phase of the first phase of the Ijtema, which began on the banks of Turag in Tongi, Gazipur, is ending today with the final prayer. Devout devotees from different parts of the country have gathered at the Ijtema ground to participate in this second largest religious gathering of the Muslim Ummah.
Devotees started heading towards the Ijtema ground after the Fajr prayers on this day. With time, their flow on the highway started increasing. Thousands of people came down to the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway before the dawn to participate in the final prayer.
Devotees are covering the nearly 10-kilometer route from Bhogra bypass to the Ijtema ground on foot. Because the movement of vehicles has been limited due to the huge crowd, many devotees have suffered. Many have set off on foot to participate in the final prayer of the Ijtema without finding a vehicle. Before the Ijtema prayer, the entire Ijtema site has become crowded with pilgrims from home and abroad.
The three days of Ijtema were spent with the prayers, prayers, worship and important speeches in the light of the Holy Quran by millions of devotees from home and abroad. The final prayer is scheduled to be held by 9 am today, Sunday.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Dr. Md. Nazmul Karim Khan said that from 12 midnight on Saturday, the Tongi-Kamarpara Road, Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway from Tongi to Gazipur’s Bhogra Bypass and from Abdullahpur to Ashulia’s Bypass will be closed for vehicle movement. In addition, vehicles going to Mymensingh and Gazipur have been asked to use the 300-foot road via Gabtoli via Konabari and vehicles going to Mymensingh from Dhaka via Bhogra Bypass. No goods vehicles or vehicles will be allowed to ply on these roads during this time. However, all types of traffic related to the Ijtema will remain normal.
On Saturday, after Asr, a mass marriage without dowry was performed on the main stage of the Ijtema Maidan according to the dowry of the marriage of Mohr-e-Fatemi or Hazrat Fatima (RA) and Hazrat Ali (RA). Like every time, this time too, a mass marriage without dowry of 63 couples was held. Maulana Zohairul Hasan from India performed the marriage.
2,150 foreign guests from 72 countries have come to this year’s Biswa Ijtema. Among them, devotees from various countries including India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Malaysia, South Africa, and the United Kingdom have participated.
Today, the first phase of the two-phase Ijtema of Shuray-e-Nezam will end with the final prayer. The second phase will continue from February 3 to February 5. Then, the Ijtema of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi’s followers will be held from February 14 to February 16.
