What Jamaat Ameer and Charmonai Pir said at the joint press conference?
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer and Charmonai Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim believe that it is necessary for all Islamic parties in the country to unite to increase the number of ballot boxes. They said this at a joint press conference held at Charmonai Madrasa in Barisal Sadar Upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
At the press conference, the Jamaat Ameer said, “We basically want to see unity among Islamic parties. With our united strength, we will not allow any more farce elections. Therefore, elections must be held after reforms within the appropriate time.”
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “Out of the 180 million people in the country, 91 percent feel comfortable identifying themselves as Muslims. Among the remaining nine percent, there may be some followers of different religions and some atheists. All in all, this Bangladesh is ours.”
He said, “Although we have completed 54 years of independence, we have not received the status of an independent country. The main reason for this is corruption and misrule. Where there is no law of Allah, there will be corruption and misrule. If we had followed the law of Allah in society by following the law of prayer, then the situation of the country would not have been like this. The country has come to this state due to following some and not following some. We want to follow the law of Allah completely, so we want the cooperation of the entire countrymen.’
The Jamaat Amir said, ‘Our gathering is for Allah. This gathering will also be in the field of politics. There is no dispute between us. The people expect that Islamic parties should have a box in all election centers.’
He said, ‘We want elections when the reforms required for fair elections are completed. All the conspiracies of the Awami League have failed in the past and will fail in the future too.’
Regarding India, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘India is our neighbor. We expect from India that there should be no barbed wire fence. This is due to our kneeling foreign policy.’
Regarding the rise in commodity prices, he said, ‘We want the prices of commodities to come down quickly. This requires government and private initiatives.’
At the press conference, Charmonai Pir said that there was an attempt to send a box to the center in favor of Islam during the election, ‘It is still going on. Islamic parties have been kept away for the last 53 years through various strategies. A good field has been created for the Islamic side through the new independence on August 5. However, if we do not make timely judgments, it can be detrimental for us.’
Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim said, ‘These two parties (Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Andolan) want elections through proportional representation.’
During the visit to the madrasa, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Islam Charmonai visited the grave of Maulana Syed Muhammad Ishaq, the first Pir of Charmonai.
