Three Israeli hostages released.
Three Israeli hostages were released from the Palestinian independence movement Hamas after 471 days. The international relief organization Red Cross handed them over to the Israel Defense Forces.
The released prisoners are Romi Gonen, Emily Damari and Daron Streibrechter.
According to the Times of Israel, they were taken from Gaza to the border area for first aid.
The IDF said the Red Cross handed over the three hostages to the elite forces.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office also confirmed the transfer of the three hostages to the Israeli forces.
A statement from Netanyahu’s office said, “The Israeli government warmly welcomes these three returnees. Their families have been informed of this. The Israeli government is committed to returning all prisoners and missing persons.’
A ceasefire agreement was reached between Hamas and Israel on January 15, brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the United States. It came into effect on Sunday.
Meanwhile, after the ceasefire came into effect, Palestinians have been overwhelmed with joy. They have started returning to their homeland in droves.
