Trump to begin mass arrests of illegal immigrants the day after inauguration

Reuters reported citing a top border official in Donald Trump’s new administration that US immigration authorities will begin mass arrests of illegal immigrants across the country the day after Donald Trump is sworn in as president.

It would be the first step for Republican Trump to fulfill his campaign promise to deport millions of illegal immigrants from the United States.

According to reports in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and other US media, the new Trump administration plans to launch an “immigration raid” in Chicago starting Tuesday. In response, Trump’s incoming “border czar” Tom Homan spoke about the raid on Fox News on Friday.

Homan, a former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), oversaw the policy of separating immigrant parents and children at the border during Trump’s first term.

“There will be major raids in many parts of the country. Chicago is one of many places. On Tuesday, ICE will finally do their job.”

Homan added, “We have ordered ICE to enforce immigration laws until they apologize. The worst, the threats to public safety, will be looked at first. But no one will be left out. Those who are in the country illegally will have problems.”
