77 people died in fuel tanker explosion in Nigeria.
A massive explosion in a fuel tanker in West Africa has killed 77 people. In addition, 25 more were injured in the explosion.
Reuters reported this information on Sunday.
After the tanker carrying fuel overturned, many tried to collect the fuel that had spilled onto the road. At that time, the tanker exploded, causing casualties.
The report said that the tanker overturned in the Suleja area of north-central Niger state on Saturday, and the fuel inside was spread all around. Later, many people came to collect the fuel. The tanker exploded shortly after people started collecting the fuel. As a result, 77 people died. In addition, 25 others, including rescuers, were injured, officials said.
The emergency management agency said that the injured were being treated at a nearby hospital.
Several similar incidents have occurred in the country recently. At least five people were killed in an explosion after a fuel tanker crashed in oil-rich Delta state two weeks ago.
The BBC reported that fuel tanker explosions and road accidents are common in this West African country. Such accidents often occur due to poor road conditions and poor vehicles.
It is worth noting that in October last year, a sudden explosion occurred while collecting fuel from an overturned tanker in northern Nigeria. The explosion killed 153 people.
