MD Rafiqul Amin released after 12 years in prison.
Rafiqul Amin Managing Director of Destiny Group has been released from prison after more than 12 years. He was released from Dhaka Central Jail located in Rajendrapur Keraniganj at 6:10 pm on Wednesday.
Earlier, Judge Md. Rabiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 sentenced Rafiqul Amin and 19 others to 12 years in prison in a case of embezzlement of money from the sale of trees of Destiny Tree Plantation Limited. However, Rafiqul Amin has been in prison for the past 12 years. In the verdict, the court said that the years spent in prison will be deducted from the sentence.
Rafiqul Amin was detained in Dhaka Central Jail since October 11, 2012. Accordingly, his sentence has been completed.
When the accused surrendered to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court and sought bail, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Saifur Rahman granted him bail till June 10 on a surety of Tk 10,000.
The court has ordered the fine to be deposited in the state treasury within the next 6 months and if it is not deposited, the Dhaka District Commissioner has been directed to take necessary steps to collect the fine.
The other two accused who have been granted bail are Irfan Ahmed Sunny, director of Baishakhi Media Limited, and Syed Sajjad Hossain.
