Preparations underway for Election at government-announced time: EC Secretary.
The Election Commission (EC) is taking forward the preparatory work as per the Chief Advisor’s possible timing of the elections between late 2025 and mid-2026. EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed told reporters at the Election Commission building in Agargaon on Tuesday.
A delegation led by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Coordinator Gwen Lewis met the Chief Election Commissioner and election commissioners. Later, Akhtar Ahmed spoke to reporters on the matter.
Regarding the election schedule, the BNP Secretary General said at a press conference yesterday that the elections are possible between July-August. When attention was drawn to this statement, the EC Secretary said that the EC is not officially aware of the matter. He said, “I do not have the opportunity to give my opinion on this issue. Because, I do not know the issues. Our preparation is that we are working with the window given by the Chief Advisor.”
The EC secretary said, “We have sought cooperation from UNDP regarding the election process. That cooperation is institutional, communication-related, hardware, software, etc. The representatives came to review this issue.”
