“If necessary, you will give your life, but you will not retreat an inch of the motherland.”
Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has called upon the new soldiers of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) not to ever turn their backs towards the adversary at the border. He said, ‘You will give your lives if necessary to protect the country’s borders, but you will not let even an inch of the country’s soil be lost.’
He said this as the chief guest at a program organized at Border Guard Training Center and College – a traditional training institution of BGB, located in Baitul Izzat, Satkania, Chittagong on Tuesday.
The Home Affairs Adviser said, ‘I tell you, whatever the hostile situation, to never have your back against the border. You would lay your lives if it is the demand of protecting the motherland, yet you should not let go of the soil of your country not even an inch.
He addressed the newly recruited soldiers of BGB and said, ‘I want to believe that you will not disappoint and dismay us. Know that when flawless security is provided by you, the people of this country will sleep uninterruptedly. You will be a symbol of security and reliance of our borders.’
The force, known to all as the ‘watchful guardian of the border’, has been discharging the great responsibility to secure the 4,427-kilometer-long border of Bangladesh and to provide security to border land and assets with great determination and success, said Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
Assuring the passing-out soldiers on their bright future, Home Affairs Advisor said, “Soldiers, the brilliant parade you have displayed today is indeed commendable. This has been possible only because of your rigorous training, relentless efforts, sincerity, and indomitable enthusiasm. Remember, in a larger career, scope, and ambit of work will go on further increasing. When you go at the border, honesty, dedication, and professional skill will determine the image and glory of this force.
The function was also attended by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, senior military and civilian officers of Dhaka, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar regions, and senior officials of the local military and civilian administration.
It is important to be mentioned here that the basic training of 102nd recruit batch began on 30 July at Border Guard Training Center and College, or BGTC&C in short. Among the total of 695 recruits present at the training venue, 649 male and 46 female recruits have been graduated after completing the basic training. After successful completion of this 23-week-long very rigorous and difficult training, their soldier life began today along with a formal oath-taking and closing parade.
