Zubayr supporters demand ban on Saad supporters, calling them ‘terrorists’.
Supporters of Maulana Zubayr in the Tabligh Jamaat movement have called for a complete ban on the activities of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi’s faction, labeling them as a “terrorist organization.”
The demand was made by Maulana Mamunul Haque, a key figure among Zubayr supporters, during a press briefing on Wednesday following a meeting with government advisors at the Home Ministry.
Present at the meeting was Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, who participated in discussions addressing escalating tensions between the two factions of Tabligh Jamaat.
Maulana Mamunul Haque strongly criticized Saad supporters, claiming they were responsible for violence and casualties. “This is not a conflict between two groups, as some suggest. The Saad supporters are instigating violence, and those responsible for these actions must be arrested without delay,” he stated.
In response to questions about future religious gatherings, Mamunul Haque insisted that the annual Ijtema led by Zubayr supporters would proceed as planned. However, he categorically denied any possibility of an Ijtema being organized by Saad supporters, signaling a continuation of the rift within the Tabligh Jamaat movement.
Regarding a planned long march toward Turag in Tongi scheduled for Thursday, Mamunul Haque hinted that a decision would be made following a senior scholars’ conference currently underway in Kakrail.
This public escalation comes amidst years of growing tensions between the two factions of Tabligh Jamaat, which have frequently clashed over leadership disputes and interpretations of the movement’s direction. The calls for banning Saad supporters are likely to intensify the already heated conflict, putting authorities under pressure to mediate or take action to maintain public order.
