83 Dangerous Points Identified at Three Major Airports in Bangladesh.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has identified 83 dangerous points around three major airports in the country, raising concerns over the safety of aircraft take-offs and landings. The risky areas, which include high-rise buildings constructed near the airports, were flagged following a recent survey conducted by the Bangladesh Survey Department.

The affected airports are Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar Airport. The survey revealed critical areas with buildings that exceed the height limits set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), posing potential risks to flight safety.

According to CAAB sources, a total of 25 dangerous points were found around Shahjalal Airport, 12 at Shah Amanat Airport, and 13 at Cox’s Bazar Airport. Following this discovery, CAAB requested further surveying of these locations to determine their exact coordinates and heights. An additional 35 dangerous points were identified, bringing the total to 83.

Md. Shamsul Haque, Director of the Air Traffic Management Department of CAAB, emphasized that such surveys are essential to ensure safe flight operations. “This is an ongoing process to regularly assess the safety of air traffic. Pilots need to know the exact heights of these buildings to avoid any potential risks,” he said.

In response to the findings, CAAB has already ordered the removal of several high-rise buildings near Hazrat Shahjalal Airport that were constructed without adhering to aviation safety regulations. These buildings were built during previous administrations, often with influence that bypassed safety guidelines.

The survey results highlight the growing concern over the rapid urbanization around major airports. As the aviation industry expands in Bangladesh, authorities are working to mitigate safety risks and maintain smooth, secure operations for both passengers and crew.
