Chief selector’s advice to Tamim.
Tamim Iqbal is out of the national team. But to prepare for his return to the BPL, the opener has returned to competitive cricket through the T20 version of the National Cricket League.
He is playing for Chittagong Division. After seven months, he is performing satisfactorily on the 22-yard field. So far, 190 runs have come from his bat in 4 matches. The highest is 91. National team chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu is looking positively at Tamim’s return to competitive cricket. His message for Tamim is to improve his fitness further.
Yesterday, he said, ‘Tamim needs to be more disciplined. He needs to improve his fitness further. When he aspires to something. When a cricketer has been playing international cricket for so long, he must know how to discipline himself, prepare himself, what kind of support he can expect or the board will give him. I think these will not be an obstacle.
Tamim’s last Test for the national team was against Ireland in April last year. In the same year, in September, he played his last ODI against New Zealand. His participation in the Champions Trophy to be held next year is yet to be confirmed. According to Gazi Ashraf, it would be very good for the team if Tamim is in the Champions Trophy. He said, ‘Tamim Iqbal has started playing-this is a very bright spot. I believe that very soon we will be able to know whether he will be available for the Champions Trophy. If he is, then great.
He also said, ‘The Tamim issue has been going on for a long time.if someone actually removed himself from the team. you know, earlier, there was a different board, there were differences of opinion, there were many issues. There is a glimmer of hope that he has returned to the cricket field under this new board.’
Gazi Ashraf also spoke about Shakib Al Hasan. The national chief selector reacted to a question over whether Bangladesh’s world-class all-rounder will be seen in the Champions Trophy: ‘I don’t have direct answers to some questions. You are the only ones who are aware of Shakib Al Hasan. At the moment, I cannot say anything directly, the batter for his inclusion in the team. This (Shakib’s current situation) is a completely different issue. It’s not a normal issue. This is an unusual issue which is happening in the case of Shakib Al Hasan.’
