Saudi expatriates will receive MR passports from today.
MRPs are being issued to expatriates from today. Initially, MRPs will be issued to expatriates who have applied at the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, MRPs will be issued in Malaysia from December 20. MRPs will be issued to expatriates in other countries including Italy in phases.
Earlier, the future of 26,000 Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia was in jeopardy because of non-renewal of their passports in time. It was also apprehended that many of them might have to return home due to non-renewal of their passports.
Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Ministry of Law, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, in a post reacting to the news report published in the media, has said, ‘So many MRP passports are being printed that this problem will never happen again in the next two-three years’.
He expressed his profound regret over the hardship, suffering, and many types of harassment that expatriates have had to endure regarding MRPs. Later, he declared that passports would be issued to expatriates from December 15.
Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Shefayet Hossain, said, “Initially, MR passports will be issued to expatriates in Saudi Arabia from December 15. However, MR passports will be issued to expatriates in Malaysia from December 20. After that, MR passports will be issued to expatriates in Italy and other countries in phases.”
