Election Commission seeks list of magistrates in charge of last three elections

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is looking for magistrates who served in the three questionable national elections during the previous Awami League government. To this end, the agency has written to the Election Commission (EC) seeking their information. This information has been sought regarding the case filed by BNP. In this regard, a letter signed by Mohammad Monir Hossain, Deputy Secretary of the EC’s Election Management Branch, was sent to all the district administrators of the country and divisional commissioners of Dhaka and Chittagong divisions on Monday (August 4). The letter states that the names and addresses of the magistrates who served in the 10th, 11th and 12th parliamentary elections, national identity cards, passport numbers and mobile numbers, along with some other information, should be sent. This information has been sought on an urgent basis in the interest of fair investigation and justice in the case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. Earlier, the PBI had sought detailed information from the Election Commission on the returning officers, presiding officers, assistant presiding officers and polling officers who were responsible for the three elections. Meanwhile, a European Union pre-election observation team is arriving in Dhaka on September 18 to observe the preparations for the upcoming national elections. The EU observation team will consist of seven members, including three foreigners and four locals, and the team will conclude its pre-election observation mission in Bangladesh on October 7.
