Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri, who returned from his visit to Dhaka, briefed the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of External Affairs. He apprised them about his meeting with top officials of the Bangladesh interim government, including Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

The event lasted for over two and a half hours at the Annex Building of the Parliament House in New Delhi on Wednesday. 21 to 22 members of parliament from the country were present at the briefing.

INS sources said quoting that Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri gave the assurance to the Members of Parliament who attended the briefing called after recent attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh has assured to take action against those involved in the attacks. Citing several people present in the Annex building, INS said that during the briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri was asked by some Indian MPs about the status of Sheikh Hasina in the country.

After leaving the briefing, Shashi Tharoor, head of the opposition Congress party and head of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, told reporters, ‘The Secretary was asked about many things during the briefing.’

Shashi Tharoor said, ‘We had a very good briefing on Bangladesh. The Foreign Secretary is back from Bangladesh yesterday. He briefed us very, very extensively about the visit. But I can’t go into details about it. But 21-22 MPs asked all the relevant questions about the visit to the Foreign Secretary. At that time, he was asked about many things. The Foreign Secretary also gave an elaborate and candid reply in return.
