An interim government is taking charge in Syria.
An interim government is being formed in Syria after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in the face of resistance from armed rebels. The Syrian rebel alliance said that they are working to transfer power to an interim governing body. This information was revealed in a report by the German media Deutsche Welle.
Bashar al-Assad fled the capital Damascus on Sunday in a private plane. However, it was not immediately known where he went after leaving Damascus. This ended the 53-year rule of the Assad family. Russian media reported that the ousted leader is currently in Russia.
Meanwhile, the rebel alliance said, ‘The great Syrian revolution has advanced from the stage of the struggle to overthrow the Assad government to the struggle to build Syria together.’
The Syrian armed opposition command said that a curfew will be imposed in Damascus from 4 pm local time. This curfew will be in effect until 5 am local time on Monday. The Military Operations Administration announced the decision on Telegram, but did not give a reason for the curfew.
Analysts say the announcement by rebel leaders is a positive step to avoid pushing Syria, which has been embroiled in a long-running civil war, back into conflict.
