    4 distinguished women received the Rokeya Medal.

    Four distinguished women have been awarded the Begum Rokeya Padak 2024 for their outstanding contributions to society, women’s education and women’s empowerment.

    The awardees are – Bangladesh’s first female international chess master Rani Hamid; educationist, Transparency International Bangladesh Chairperson and Central Women’s University Vice Chancellor Parveen Hasan; founder of Nari Paksha and women’s rights activist Shirin Parveen Haque; and Bangladesh Garments Sramik Samhati President and renowned photographer Taslima Akhtar.

    On Monday, at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, Principal Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus presented the medals to the winners. Each of them was given a gold medal, a certificate and a check of Tk 4 lakh as prizes. The event was organized to mark the 144th birth and 92nd death anniversary of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain.

    Principal Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, this medal is not just a recognition of recent achievements; it is a recognition of their lifelong sense of duty, sacrifice and inspiration for the development of the country. Their work is an exemplary example for the entire nation.

    Paying tribute to the memory of Begum Rokeya, he said, the role that Begum Rokeya played in the liberation and development of women will inspire generations after generations. I am grateful to the foresight of those who included her in the curriculum.

    Advisor on Women and Children’s Affairs Sharmeen S. Murshid said, Begum Rokeya was a pioneer in breaking the chains of the conservative society of the nineteenth century and showing the light of education to the women of the nation. Her work and ideals will inspire as a symbol of women’s awakening for ages.
