Recently, the heated situation between Bangladesh and India has reached a peak. In the meantime, a picture has gone viral on social media. In the picture, a man wearing a Punjabi and a cap holding the national flag of Bangladesh is seen trampling the national flag of India.
However, after searching for the source of the picture, Rumor Scanner said that the viral picture is not real. It has been created with the help of artificial intelligence or AI technology.
The fact check organization said that its existence could not be found in any reliable source using a reverse image search to verify the authenticity of the picture.
Meanwhile, Rumor Scanner’s search also found that the picture was only circulated on social media.
A report by Rumor Scanner said that an investigation into the origin of the claimed picture shows that this picture was first circulated on December 1 from an X account called ‘Voice of Bangladeshi Hindus’. The Rumor Scanner team has found examples of spreading various rumors from this account before.
What Rumor Scanner found in its in-depth analysis of the viral image is that one of the right toes of the person in the image is unusually half-visible. There is a fold in the pajamas that looks like a dhoti. The fold of the cloth in the red circle of the Bangladesh flag is also not normal. Inconsistencies have also been observed in the reflection of light, shadows, and the expression of the person’s eyes in the image. Such inconsistent images are usually seen in images created using artificial intelligence (AI).
Rumor Scanner said that after noticing such discrepancies, various artificial intelligence detection websites are used to be more certain about the image. The analysis of these websites has found up to 99 percent certainty that the image was created using AI technology.
The organization also said that the observations of the deepfake detection platform Trumedia also say that there is significant evidence of manipulation in the image in question. That is, the image was created using AI or artificial intelligence. So, a picture created using AI technology is being circulated claiming that a person wearing a Punjabi and a cap holding the national flag of Bangladesh is trampling on the national flag of India, which is completely false and a rumor.
