Main accused in lawyer Saiful’s murder arrested.
Police have arrested Chandan (35), the main accused in the murder case of Chittagong court lawyer Advocate Saiful Islam Alif. A police team led by Bhairab Police Station OC Md. Shahin conducted a raid at around 12:15 am on Wednesday and arrested him from the railway station.
Chandan is the son of a deceased Dhari from the Methorpatti area of Sevak Colony on Chittagong Bandel Road. He was supposed to get off the train and go to his in-laws’ house in Methorpatti, Bhairab.
OC Md. Shahin Mia said, “Chandan left Chittagong by train and got down at Bhairab railway station at 7:30 pm. His in-laws’ house is in Methorpatti, Bhairab. After getting off the train, he was roaming around the station. He wanted to take shelter at his in-laws’ house when the night fell. We have arrested him in the meantime.’
Md. Shahin said that the Chittagong DB had been in Bhairab for the past two days to arrest the main accused Chandan after a case was filed after the lawyer’s murder. He said, ‘DB came to know that accused Chandan’s in-laws’ house was in Bhairab area. But DB could not find him. Finally, on Wednesday, it came to know through information technology that he was staying in Bhairab. On this information, the police took up position at Bhairab railway station since evening. After this, a group of police led by him conducted a drive around 11 pm and were able to arrest him from the railway station area.’
He also said that Chandan is currently being kept in police custody. The matter of the arrest has been informed to the Chittagong Kotwali Police Station. He will be handed over to the police when the police arrive from Chittagong.
It is worth mentioning that on November 26, lawyer Saiful Islam was killed in front of a building on AC Dutta Road in Chittagong. In this incident, the deceased’s father Jamal Uddin filed a murder case with the Chittagong Kotwali Police Station, naming 31 people and 10/15 unknown people as accused. The first accused in the case is Chandan.
Although the police had already arrested 9 people in this case, the main accused Chandan had been absconding since the incident. He was finally arrested by the police.
