4 devotees die in Jor Ijtema in Tongi
Four devotees who had come to participate in the five-day Jor Ijtema at the Bishwa Ijtema ground on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi, Gazipur have died.
Habibullah Raihan, media coordinator of the Bishwa Ijtema Shurai Nejam followers, confirmed the matter on Monday night.
The deceased devotees are Abdul Hakim Akand (72), son of Abdul Hamid Matabbe of Dulali area of Nagarkanda police station in Faridpur, Haider Ali (35), son of the deceased Maqbul Hossain of Bauragipara area of Kotwali police station in Rangpur, Kausar Ali (28), son of the deceased Golam Mostafa of Mostapur area of Dinajpur Sadar police station, and Shahidul Islam (65) of Sirajganj Sadar police station.
Habibullah Raihan said, “Last Friday, November 29, after the Fajr Am Bayan, the five-day Jor Ijtema began at the Bishwa Ijtema ground on the banks of Turag in Tongi. This Jor is held every year as a preparation for the Bishwa Ijtema. Several lakhs of devotees have participated in this Jor Ijtema of Shurai Nejam. Out of these, four devotees who came to participate in the Jor Ijtema died at different times. The bodies have been handed over to the families.”
It is worth noting that this Jor Ijtema will end on Tuesday with prayers.
