Hilsa catching is ban, 9 fishermen sentenced to prison
The mobile court with the help of the police arrested nine fishermen for violating the ban in Padma Arial Khan river of Sadarpur upazila. At this time, about 40 kg of hilsa was seized from unscrupulous fishermen.
On Tuesday afternoon, nine fishermen were sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment without work for the crime of hunting hilsa in the river by disobeying the government ban. After serving the sentence, the accused were sent to Faridpur Jail.
The arrested fishermen are Ashirul Islam (30), Al-Amin Sharif (25), Md. Saddam Hossain (32), Khokon Kha (30), Sheikh Hasan (29), Shukur Madbar (57), Manowar Bepari (45), Ali Akbar (38), Afzal Molla (48). The arrested fishermen are residents of different villages of Charnasirpur, Dheukhali, Narikel Baria and Shibchar upazilas.
Regarding this operation, Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Hakim Al Mamun said that there are only a few days left. The campaign will continue till November 3.
He also said that today nine fishermen were sentenced to 7 days imprisonment and 40 kg of fish recovered from them were distributed among the students of some local orphanages.
