4 crore taka recovered from former agriculture minister’s house
Former Agriculture Minister and former Member of Parliament of Moulvibazar-4 Constituency Abdus Shahid has been arrested by the police from his house in Uttara. Around four crore taka, coins and gold ornaments of different countries were seized.
Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Hafizur Rahman confirmed the arrest.
He said, “At the time of the arrest of the former minister, around four crore rupees, coins and gold ornaments of various countries were seized from the house.”
The security guards said that since the fall of the government, Abdus Shaheed did not stay in his house in Uttara Sector 10. When he suddenly returned home on Tuesday, the law and order forces surrounded the house. After several hours of operation, he was arrested and taken to Uttara West Police Station.
Abdus Shahid was elected Member of Parliament from Moulvibazar-4 constituency as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League in the 1991 fifth, 1996 seventh, 2001 eighth, 2008 ninth, 2014 tenth, 2014 eleventh, 2018 and 2024 twelfth parliamentary elections.
He served as the Chief Whip of the National Assembly from 2009 to 2014, the Opposition Chief Whip in the National Assembly from 2001 to 2006 and the National Whip from 1996 to 2001.
