Rumors of Ghulam Farooq’s arrest
Former Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Khandkar Golam Farooq has been arrested. Various media reported that he was detained from Shahjalal International Airport around 3 pm on Saturday. However, the DB said that his detention is not correct.
In a small message, the immigration police told the media after 2:30 on Saturday night that they have arrested former commissioner Khandkar Ghulam Farooq.
But so far no one has been able to provide accurate information about this.
According to media reports, he was questioned by immigration officers after he went to the airport’s exit immigration counter on his way to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. After that he was not allowed to board the plane.
According to a source, Ghulam Farooq was going to Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG-340. His visit was personal. However, the immigration police did not allow him to leave the country. He is currently with the immigration police. It has not yet been decided whether he will be handed over to the police station or returned home.
Khandkar Golam Farooq joined Bangladesh Police as Assistant Superintendent of Police in 12th BCS (Police) Cadre in 1991. He took charge as the 35th Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on October 29, 2022. He retired on September 30, 2023 after a long service of 32 years and 8 months.

Khandkar Golam Farooq was born on October 1, 1964 in Ghatandi village of Bhuyapur police station in Tangail district. His father is deceased Khandaker Haider Ali and mother Mosammat Fatema Begum. He holds BSc (Agriculture) with Honors from Dhaka Sher-Bangla Agricultural University and Masters in Political Science from Asian University of Bangladesh.
