DGM Arif of Lakshmipur Palli Bidyut Samity arrested
Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Laxmipur Palli Bidyut Samity Ali Hasan Mohammad Ariful Islam has been arrested. Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdul Munnaf confirmed the matter.
He said that Arif has been arrested in the Khilkshet police station of Dhaka in a case filed under Sedition and Cyber Security Act. He was arrested by the army from Mier Bedi zonal office area of Bhabaniganj Union of Sadar Upazila in the afternoon. Later handed over to Sadar police station. He was in charge of that zonal office. Ariful Islam has been sent to Khilkhet police station.
Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB) sacked DGM Arif on Thursday, according to Rural Electrification sources.
It is known that on Thursday, a person named Arshad Hossain filed a case under the Cyber Security Act 2023 and similar laws, mentioning the names of 4 people including Ariful Islam in Khilkhet police station of Dhaka. He was arrested in that case. Arshad, the plaintiff in the case, is the son of deceased Akbar Hossain of Jugia village of Kushtia district headquarters.
Incidentally, the officers and employees of Lakshmipur Palli Vidyut Samiti have been holding human chain and protest rally since last few months as part of central program demanding uniform service code and permanent appointment of contractual employees. As part of this, black out was declared from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Thursday afternoon and electricity supply was stopped. Crores of customers suffered due to this. Later, with the intervention of the army, police and local administration, electricity supply was restored. Ariful Islam is said to have led the movement in Lakshmipur.
