Former army chief Aziz’s 2 brothers’ passports cancelled
The passports of former army chief Aziz Ahmed’s two brothers, Haris Ahmed and Tofail Ahmed Joseph, have been canceled for giving false information.
On September 25, the passport department canceled their passports. Earlier, the Election Commission had canceled their national identity cards on allegations of fraud.
Additional Director General of Passport Department Selina Banu confirmed this information. He said that the passports of the two brothers were canceled in one order of the Directorate.
He also said that although Haris Ahmed and Tofail Ahmed Joseph are their real names, they concealed the information and took passports under the names of Mohammad Hasan and Tanveer Ahmed Tanjeel respectively. These two passports were valid till 2030.
According to the cancellation order, it is said to cancel the passport under the power of 7(2)(b) of Bangladesh Passport Order 1973 for accepting false information.
Date of birth is given as 6 June 1966 in the passport issued in the name of Mohammad Hasan. This passport issued on September 20, 2020 is valid till September 13, 2030.
On the other hand, the date of birth is given as 23 August 1967 in the passport issued in the name of Tanveer Ahmed Tanjeel. This passport issued on September 3, 2020 is valid till September 1, 2030.
Haris gave his father’s name as Solaiman Sarkar and mother’s name as Rahela Begum in his passport. The permanent address is house no. 28 Noor Jahan Road, Dhaka.
On the other hand, Joseph’s name is changed in the passport, father’s name is Solaiman Sarkar, but mother’s name is Fatema Begum. And the address is a flat in a house on the 2nd road of Mirpur DOHS.
In real sense, their father’s name is Abdul Wadud and mother’s name is Renuza Begum. Renuza Begum applied for remission of Joseph’s sentence in her name.
According to newspaper reports, Harish Ahmed obtained a National Identity Card (NID) in the name of Mohammad Hasan in 2014 with false information. In 2019 he changed his picture at NID. And Tofail Ahmed Joseph took two NIDs. Apart from his real name Tanveer took another NID named Ahmed Tanjeel with false information. Various media reports that both of them are out of the country.
