Show cause notices issued to 5 leaders including Hasnat-Sarjis for Cox’s Bazar trip
The top 5 leaders of the National Citizens Party (NCP) have been given show cause notices for traveling to Cox’s Bazar without informing the party’s political council in advance. They have been asked to appear in person within the next 24 hours and explain the notice. On Wednesday (August 6), a separate letter signed by NCP Joint Member Secretary (Office) Saleh Uddin Sifat sought this explanation from Tasnim Zara, Khaled Saifullah, Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam and Nasiruddin Patwari. It said that yesterday, August 5, the first anniversary of the July Uprising and an important national day, you and four other central members of the party went to Cox’s Bazar on a personal visit. No information or explanation regarding this visit was previously informed to the ‘political council’. It further said, “In this situation, you are requested to appear in person and give a written explanation to Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain within the next 24 hours regarding the reasons and context of your decision.” On Tuesday (August 5), during the July Mass Uprising Day celebrations in Dhaka, six people, including four top leaders of the National Citizens Party (NCP), were staying at Hotel Sea Pearl Beach Resort in Inani, Marine Drive, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. There were rumors that they had met former US Ambassador Peter Haas after coming to Cox’s Bazar. When asked about this, the party’s chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari immediately said, “This is a complete rumor. We came here for a visit. We checked in to the hotel and saw such a news. This is a complete rumor. Nothing like that. We just came for a visit.”
