Youth Dal leader’s eardrum damaged by SI’s ride
Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Russell has been accused of slapping a Jubo Dal leader in Gopalpur, Tangail and slapping him in the ear. The incident took place in a room of Gopalpur Police Station on Tuesday (August 26) afternoon. The injured Aminul Islam is serving as the member secretary of the Alamnagar Union Jubo Dal in the upazila. It is learned that a mediation was held on Monday (August 25) to resolve the land dispute between the two sons of the deceased Mannan, Mithu Akand and Mizu Akand, of Nabagram Uttar Charpara in Alamnagar Union. But Mithu Akand was not present at the mediation. He came to the house the next day, Tuesday, with the police. The locals were angry over the incident. They got into an argument with the police. Later, Union Jubo Dal member secretary Aminul Islam was called to the police station over the incident. Then, a meeting was held in the officer-in-charge (OC) room of the police station in the presence of Upazila BNP General Secretary Kazi Liaquat VP. When tension arose there, Jubo Dal leader Aminul and SI Russell were asked to leave the room. Aminul Islam said, “After he came out of the room, SI Russell took him to another room and slapped him hard. After that, I can no longer hear in my ears. In addition to experiencing severe pain in my ears, my eardrum has ruptured.” Sub-Inspector (SI) Russell of Gopalpur Police Station said, “After receiving a call from the emergency number 999 and going to the scene, Aminul beat up the complainants in front of the police. Later, he was brought to the police station from there. After that, on the orders of the OC, he was kept in police custody for some time. There was no incident of beating him there.” Upazila BNP General Secretary Kazi Liaquat said that Upazila BNP Organizing Secretary Opel Chowdhury and Alamnagar Union BNP leaders were meeting in the OC’s room of the police station to resolve the matter. At that time, the sad incident happened with SI Russell. Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Khairul Alam said that Aminul Islam has injury marks on his ear. However, since he was talking about not being able to hear, he has been referred to Tangail for examination. Gopalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Muktar Ashraf Uddin said, “Youth leader Aminul obstructed the police’s work. He was called to the police station. Later, there was a misunderstanding with the SI on duty. I called the leaders and resolved the matter.”
