Youth arrested on charges of rape and video dissemination

RAB has arrested a college student named Debashish Mal (22) on charges of raping a girl (16) in Satkhira and recording a video of the scene and sharing it on social media. He was arrested from the area adjacent to the rural electricity office of Patkelghata police station on Wednesday (January 28) night. The arrested Debashish Mal is the son of Bholanath Mal of Kultia village in Satkhira Sadar upazila. He is said to be a postgraduate student.
According to the case documents and police sources, the victim’s father is a Malaysian expatriate. The accused Debashish raped the girl when no one was at home. When the girl resisted, he bit and injured the girl and cleverly recorded a video of the rape. Later, Debashish raped the girl multiple times by threatening to spread the video on the internet. Hridoy Ghosh of the same village and a few others helped him in this. The video was recently shared on social media after the girl informed her family about the incident. Helpless in this incident, the victim’s mother filed a case under the Prevention of Women and Child Abuse and Pornography Control Act at Satkhira Sadar Police Station on January 23.
After the case, the girl’s medical examination was completed and her statement was recorded in court. Members of the Satkhira camp of RAB-6, the shadow investigator of the case, arrested Debashish from the house of one of his relatives at around 8 pm yesterday. Sohrab Hossain, sub-inspector of Brahmarajpur police outpost and investigating officer of the case, said that RAB has arrested the accused and handed him over to the police station. After the initial interrogation, he will be sent to court today, Thursday. The drive to arrest the other accused in the case is continuing.
