Youth arrested from JU female student hall at midnight.
Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) arrested a youth from Nawab Faizunnesa Hall at midnight. The incident took place on the third floor of the hall around 1 am on Saturday. He was later handed over to Ashulia Police Station.
The arrested youth has been identified as Ashraful Alam Parvez. Although his home is in Agrabad, Chittagong, he currently lives in Gazipur. He was arrested from the room of a student of the 52nd batch of the university’s Department of Drama and Dramatic Arts. Initial interrogation revealed that he had come to the university to watch the Him Utsav.
According to eyewitnesses, Ashraful entered the hall with the help of Orpa after the Him Utsav was underway at the university. The accused student took Ashraful to his room on the third floor of the hall. However, Ashraful entered with a tip on his forehead and a sheet wrapped around his body so that the gate guard of the hall and others would not notice him. However, when the boy went into the room and removed his veil, the students in the surrounding rooms identified him.
At that time, the students detained Ashraful and took him to the hall provost’s room. Later, the hall provost came and informed the proctorial body. At one point, after initial interrogation, Ashraful was handed over to Ashulia police station. At that time, the angry students of the hall beat the young man with shoes.
Meanwhile, the accused Ashraful said that he met the student on Facebook. After watching the Him Utsav, he told her that he had no place to stay. Then he brought her to the hall.
The accused student said that Ashraful brought him inside the hall because he had no place to stay anywhere else.
In this regard, the hall’s principal, Professor Jahangir Alam, said, “The students called and informed that a young man had been detained inside the hall. Upon receiving the news, I went to the spot and informed the proctorial body about the matter. Later, the proctorial body handed over the young man to Ashulia Police Station. And an investigation committee will be formed in this incident. Action will be taken against the student as per the university rules. Initially, the student’s family members have been informed.”
University Proctor for General Affairs AKM Rashidul Alam said, ‘A young man has been detained from the university hall. Action will be taken against him as per the university rules. For now, we have handed him over to Ashulia Police Station. A case will be filed in this regard by the university administration tomorrow morning.’
