Youth arrested for insulting Prophet
Police have arrested a Hindu youth in Gazipur’s Sreepur on charges of making insulting comments against Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) on Facebook. He was arrested from Barmi Bazar’s Karmakarpatti in the upazila around 9 pm on Friday (November 21). Meanwhile, the president of the Barmi Union of the Islamic Movement, Hafez Maulana Mahdi Hasan, has filed a case with the police station in this incident last night. The arrested person is Badhan Saha (26), son of Babul Saha of Barmi Bazar Karmakarpatti.
Locals said that Badhan made very objectionable comments about Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) on the social media Facebook yesterday afternoon. The insulting comments written in English came to the attention of local religious devotees after evening. The objectionable post has severely hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims. Hundreds of Tawheed people protested in the insulting Barmi Bazar.
It is also known that after receiving information, the police quickly conducted a raid and arrested Badhan from Barmi Bazar. Meanwhile, the Mahanaam Yajna ceremony organized by the Barmi Bazar Jaya Durga Mandin at the market’s Karmakar Patti was stopped due to the obstruction of the Towhidi crowd. At that time, local political leaders including the OC of Sripur Police Station Mohammad Abadul Barik quickly reached the spot.
It is learned that OC Mohammad Abadul Barik assured exemplary justice to Badhan. The angry Towhidi crowd left the scene after his assurance. The plaintiff in the case, Mahdi Hasan, said, ‘Badhan is a rascal. He insulted the Holy Prophet (PBUH). By insulting the Holy Prophet (PBUH), he has hurt the hearts of Muslims. We demand the highest punishment for him.’
The officer-in-charge of Sripur Police Station Mohammad Abdul Barik told us that a young man insulted the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Upon receiving the news, we quickly started a protest in Barmi Bazar and were able to arrest Badhan. In the meantime, the Towhidi crowd stopped a Hindu Yajna ceremony. Local leaders rushed to the spot. The agitated crowd was assured of Badhan’s arrest. At the same time, the Towhidi crowd left the spot after being assured of his maximum punishment. Then, at around 11 pm, the Hindu yagna ceremony was held without any incident.
