Young man dies while taking pictures of wild elephants in Bandarban

A young man named Abdus Salam (35) died after being attacked by an elephant while taking pictures of wild elephants in Naikshangchhari, Bandarban. He is a tubewell mechanic by profession. The incident took place at around 6:45 am today, Saturday (January 3) in the Longabil Titar Para area of ​​Ward No. 6 of Baishari Union of Naikshangchhari Upazila.
Locals including eyewitnesses Ruby Akhter and Manuara Begum said that a wild elephant was crossing the road in front of Abdus Salam’s house at around 6:45 am. While taking pictures of the elephant, he suddenly stepped back a little. At that time, the elephant suddenly became agitated due to the barking of a nearby dog. Within a short time, the elephant jumped on Salam and trampled him underfoot. He died on the spot.
Local UP member Ubaching Marma said that after receiving the news, he went to the spot and recovered the body. The matter was confirmed by Police Inspector Md. Anwarul Islam, in-charge of Baishari Police Investigation Center. He went to the spot and prepared a report about the situation.
