Wreckage of missing plane found in Indonesia
Wreckage of a missing plane has been recovered in Indonesia. However, none of the 11 people on board have been found yet. The plane crashed in a foggy mountainous area in the country’s South Sulawesi province on Saturday (January 17), Reuters reported.
Indonesian authorities said on Sunday that the ATR 42-500 model plane was flying from Jakarta to Makassar at 1:30 pm local time yesterday. Contact with the plane was lost over the airspace of the Maros region in South Sulawesi. The plane was carrying eight crew members and three passengers. The passengers were employees of Indonesia’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
Muhammad Arif Anwar, head of the South Sulawesi rescue agency, told local television that about 1,200 rescue workers would be deployed to search for the missing passengers and crew after the wreckage was recovered. He said that finding the victims would be the top priority. In September last year, a helicopter carrying six passengers and two crew members crashed shortly after takeoff from South Kalimantan province, killing all on board.
