Worries on the foreheads of US allies in Asia

Donald Trump is making history by sitting in the US House for the second time. He is coming back to the White House on January 20. Many people’s opinion is that his comeback might face different conflicts related to US foreign policy in South Asia, just like any other region. That’s due to the fact that in Trump’s first term, some chaotic, ignorant, unstable steps were taken; hence, his return increases concern for the countries of South Asia.

Analysts believe that Trump’s foreign policy in South Asia in his second term will be similar to the policy that the Biden administration pursued, although many are talking about bringing in some minor changes.

Analysts say that although Afghanistan and Pakistan are in the back row in US foreign policy in Trump’s new term, new opportunities and challenges will arise for Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka.

At the same time, China is one of the Asian superpowers in global politics. They are now modernizing their military and nuclear forces. They are busy with regional claims over the South China Sea and Taiwan.

On the other hand, North Korea has increased its nuclear program. Both countries are strengthening their relations with Russia. And the activities are increasing its aggressive rhetoric and calling for an increase in its illegal nuclear program. These days, both countries are trying to deepen their relations with Russia, and just because of this relationship, Asia is getting involved in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Because of these relationships, it would not be wrong to say that the relation between China and the United States is extremely cold.

On the other side, South Korea and Japan are quite older allies of the United States. For a very long period of time, the US administration has been ensuring the security of its allies. The largest number of US troops are in the region. If there is any possibility of an attack, then the Philippines and Australia also depend on the US’s assistance. Another important power in the Asia-Pacific region is India. How much China and India, which are contesting for regional supremacy, will put up with US intervention is also a big question. US relations with India are now bittersweet.
