    Workers block road in Sreepur demanding unpaid wages

    Workers of a factory called Khantex Ltd in Bartopa village of Maona union in Sreepur, Gazipur have blocked a road demanding arrears of salaries.

    Workers of the factory blocked the Maona-Kaliakoir regional road from 7 am today, Wednesday. This completely stopped traffic on that road since morning.

    The workers said that the salaries of the working workers are two months in arrears. Besides, various allowances are not being paid regularly. Workers Nazma, Munni, and Jasmine, who participated in the movement, said, “Eid is knocking on the door. We are two months in arrears of salaries. We could not find a solution even after contacting the authorities. That is why we have taken to the streets.”

    Other workers Zakir and Tariqul said, “We are two months in arrears of salaries. Besides, our attendance bonus and various allowances are not being paid regularly. We have tried a lot but could not find any remedy. We have launched a movement to achieve our demands.’

    Meanwhile, although no one from the factory authorities was seen at the scene, Sreepur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Shamim Akhter said that the workers of the factory have been blocking the Mauna-Kaliakoir road since morning. Traffic on the road is closed. We are talking to the workers. We are trying to normalize traffic on the road.

    It is worth noting that traffic on the road was closed until the time of writing this report at 10:40 am.
