“Women will move forward with the developed world in realizing their dreams, this should be our pledge”
Women of Bangladesh will move forward in line with the developed world to realize the dream of building a developed Bangladesh, said the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, noting that this should be our commitment to the development and empowerment of women in Bangladesh.
He said this in a message given on the occasion of ‘International Women’s Day’ on Saturday.
The Chief Advisor said, ‘The current Interim Government is working tirelessly to achieve the desired goal of building a developed Bangladesh by involving women’s potential and skills in productive work.’
He said, ‘The mass uprising that students, workers and the public organized in the desire for democratic transformation of Bangladesh in July-August was led by women. Lakhs of students protested against oppression on various campuses. Several women have been martyred in this mass uprising. I respectfully remember those who sacrificed themselves in this mass uprising and express my condolences to the July fighters.’
Mentioning that women constitute half of the country’s total population, Dr. Yunus said that they are moving forward in all fields. In addition to women’s rights and empowerment, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs is implementing multifaceted programs to increase women’s participation and partnership in every field, including the country’s economic development.
He further said that shelter homes for abused, distressed and helpless women, women’s support centers to provide legal assistance, housing for working women, and assistance and microcredit programs to create self-employment for women are playing an important role in making women financially self-reliant and ensuring social security.
The Chief Advisor said that the indomitable girls of Bangladesh are moving forward in the international arena with their own glory beyond the borders of the country. Various initiatives have been taken to recognize the achievements of women, including the ‘Indomitable Women Award’ and the ‘Begum Rokeya Padak’.
Incidentally, March 8 is International Women’s Day. In 1975, the United Nations recognized March 8 as International Women’s Day. Like other countries in the world, this day is celebrated every year in Bangladesh to protect women’s rights. The theme of this year’s Women’s Day is: Rights, Equality, Empowerment – Development of Women and Girls.
